I’ve written about stupid, eco-killing packaging in the past and how some companies seem to use more cardboard to ship a memory card than needed to ship a car. Today I got two packages that gave me back faith in humanity.

The two packages I got today were nothign like the two previous packaging fails and this time I’m actually impressed with the packaging. Bothpackages were from the British site mymemory.co.uk; one was a 8GB microSDHC card I’ve mentioned before and the other was a pair of Sennheiser CX300 headphones – both of them were sale items I grabbed while they were really cheap.

The first package I opened was just an envelope with a letter inside. I didn’t see any product, so I wondered if they just sent me a letter saying “not in stock” or something of the sort. Then the memory card fell out, located inside a small plastic bag. It’s exactly as much packaging as is actually needed on a memory card, I don’t need a vacuum packged memory card that leaves 100 times (literally) the weight in garbage as the weight of the card. Really nice eco-packaging!

The second package held the CX300′s, which I knew came in a “eco package” without knowing exactly what it was. Turned out the entire headphone packaging was cardboard, NO plastic anywhere except the actual products. Cardboard is perfect for such use since it’s recyclable, leaves no plastic that just goes to a landfill to rot forever. Again, very good, both mymemory for selling the eco-version and Sennheiser for making it.
