How a cryptex works
Posted at 11:50 on October 20th 2011 in DIY, GeocachingI don't update this site much anymore due to my writing work elsewhere, but I do answer emails that come in. They're normally about one of two things: my geocaching cryptex, or my Leatherman PS4 mods. To save myself from having to explain how to make a cryptex to everyone, here's a quick rundown on how to do it. Mak

Geocaching in Hamar, my new Home
Posted at 22:09 on August 22nd 2010 in GeocachingI just moved to Hamar, so naturally I've been out caching a few times. There are a lot of caches around here, which is good since I've found most of the caches where I used to live.

Found a nice cache container
Posted at 20:50 on July 5th 2010 in GeocachingWas at Clash Ohlson (an "everything AND the kitchen sink"-shop) today and found a nice cache container. It's the perfect size, water tight, and not too expensive at 30NOK. Perfect for small caches and can hold a few items on top of the logbook and pencil. Link to product.

Rock signature items
Posted at 06:24 on June 23rd 2010 in DIY, GeocachingIt's fun leaving stuff in caches as signature items, but besides geocaching-specific business cards most alternatives are expensive. I found a way to make something unique and free.

Geocaching in Oslo part 1
Posted at 10:09 on June 16th 2010 in GeocachingI'm spending the few vacation days I have this summer in Oslo with the other half of my family, doing some geocaching. The cache density makes it a whole other experience than caching back home.

Choosing the right panorama software
Posted at 17:53 on May 29th 2010 in Geocaching, PhotographyI have an app on the iPhone that is amazing at making panoramas, but now that I have a DSLR I'd rather use that, which means I need software to stitch the photos. Turns out theres a bit difference between various software.

My geocaching cards arrived!
Posted at 13:24 on May 27th 2010 in GeocachingA few weeks ago I saw something in some caches that I thought was a good idea- business cards for geocaching! I've ordered business cards before so I went back to that site and got some specifically for caching, and they arrived today.

Rock geocache
Posted at 14:31 on May 24th 2010 in GeocachingMany geocaching websites sell fake plastic rocks that can be used to hide caches. It's a good idea, but plastic is fairly obvious when you actually touch it. My rock caches on the other hand are not fake.

Caching trip north and south
Posted at 10:43 on May 24th 2010 in GeocachingThe last two days my "caches found"-count has skyrocketed, relatively speaking. The reasons for that is that a friend of mine and I went for some caching trips following the highway in both directions.

Caching gear
Posted at 15:49 on May 21st 2010 in GeocachingYou never know what you might need when out caching. Having a caching bag that fits every possible scenario makes it so much easier when you're out and about and find you need something specific.

The cost of placing a cache
Posted at 15:28 on May 20th 2010 in GeocachingA week ago I saw a post on a geocaching forum with someone complaining about the amount of nano caches compared to full size caches. When I mentioned the cost aspect, he had an eye opener.

Caching trip to Lillehammer
Posted at 20:24 on May 18th 2010 in GeocachingThe last week has been full of exam preparation, the actual exam, bad weather and idiotic holidays but today I was finally able to get out and go find some more caches. I still have some left to finish in Lillehammer so I decided to do a few of those.

Cache container teaser
Posted at 17:04 on May 15th 2010 in GeocachingI'm working on a new, BIG cache container that will be placed later on as the final step of a multicache. It needs some more work and some paint, but once that's done it's ready to go. The drill in the pic is to show scale.

Smartphone vs dedicated GPSr
Posted at 00:03 on May 13th 2010 in GeocachingAs a new geocacher, spending $400 on a GPSr was a hard decision as I didn't quite know if I really needed it or if an external battery for the iPhone would be sufficient. I went for the former choice, and I'm glad I did.

Geocaching cryptex
Posted at 20:02 on May 2nd 2010 in DIY, GeocachingI started geocaching a month or so back, and have been putting out a few caches myself as well. I've been looking through forum threads with cache ideas, and one that really stuck was the idea of a cryptex.
