Rock geocache
Many geocaching websites sell fake plastic rocks that can be used to hide caches. It’s a good idea, but plastic is fairly obvious when you actually touch it. My rock caches on the other hand are not fake.
One of the nice things about working at a large museum is the workshop there- if I need something done, I can just borrow it after work. Among other tools they have is a hammer drill, which makes it possible to drill rocks (if you didn’t know, you can’t do that with a normal drill). I found a couple of good rocks yesterday and drilled a hole in them big enough for a plastic cache sylinder to fit, and glued it in there with hot glue. Now I have a cache that looks exactly like a rock, because it IS a rock. I could have made it even more camoflaged, but I don’t like making caches too hard because I do want people to actually find them. Hopefully the lid is visible enough to make the caches findable.
