DIY full size bit adapter for Leatherman flat bit driver
My Leatherman Skeletool has been my right hand at work and other places for the last year. It has all the tools you actually need, including a bit driver, but not a flat one not a standard one. So I made an adapter.
The Skeletool is a rather new Leatherman model which has a carabiner integrated in the design, a knife, and a bit driver plus the standard pliers. I hate the Leatherman models which has every crappy tool you never need, like scissors and box openers and satan knows what.
Unfortunately, size doesn’t permit for a full size bit driver that uses standard bits, so like the other Leathermans with bit drivers it uses the Leatherman-specific flat bits. Basically they are just normal hex bits that looks like they are sanded down flat but still have part of the hex design so the Leatherman bits can be used in normal bit drivers.
Leatherman do have an adapter for this, but it’s not available over here and even on Amazon it’s only sold through a third party seller. So, being a DIY geek, I decided to make one. It’s actually extremely simple since the flat ones are just flat versions of hex ones, so all you need to do is sand down hex bits to fit. I found a small hex extender like the ones that come with practically any bit set, sanded it down and made two notches (like the flat bits have) to make it stay in place. That’s all there is to it, but it works great.
