Wooden Daedalus Class Model

Posted at 00:24 on May 15th 2009 in DIY

Have always wanted to do a model of the Daedalus class starship from Stargate, so I finally did something about it. Found some nice reference material from a guy making a plastic model as a master for a model kit and tried to replicate that in wood as best as I can.

The model is 40 cm long,  varnished finish with no paint. Click here for large picture of the ship.

February 16-19:

Main parts cut out and basic shapes made. Dremel broke down while in “router mode” carving out the hangars so had to wait for a replacement.

February 20th-22nd update:

Main parts made and glued together, some general sanding done (pictures 10-17). Next up will be the 4 motors in the back of the hangars and the other 4 square motor-thingies on either side of the two main motors.

February 23: 8 motors done and glued on… I seriousely love my machines, makes it so easy do do stuff. Picture 18.

February 24th: Did the rest of the sanding and the details. Put on the oil, so the next few days will be drying time

February 26th: It’s finished. Going to make a stand for it later, but the model itself is done. Decided not to go with all the ugly antennas and shit that would have been matches sticking up everywhere, I don’t like them so they’re not there.
